Finding Rest: Grace and Soul Rhythms This Winter

Hey friend,

If you're reading this, maybe you're like me right now, bundled up against the cold, feeling the weight of the season settle not just on your skin, but deeper, into your spirit. The days are short, the nights long, and honestly? I've been carrying more than I should. Achy joints from the chill, yes, but also that quiet exhaustion that comes from trying to hold everything together: the work, the family, the quiet worries that creep in when the world slows down. I've caught myself pushing through, telling myself rest is for later, that I need to earn my place by doing more. Sound familiar?

I've been there too many times. As someone who follows Jesus, I know in my head that He invites the weary to come to Him, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28), but in the moment, it's hard to stop. I worry that slowing down means failing, that admitting weakness means I'm not trusting enough. Yet the longer I ignore the ache, the more it shows in short patience, scattered thoughts, a heart that's running on empty.

Lately, though, the Lord has been gentle but firm in reminding me: grace isn't something I manufacture. It's something I receive. In my weakest seasons, when I feel most "not enough", that's exactly where His power shows up strongest. Paul got this truth straight from Jesus: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). I've read that verse countless times, but this winter it's hitting different. When I'm honest about my limits, when I stop striving and simply come to Him, something shifts. The burden lightens. Not because the circumstances change overnight, but because I'm no longer carrying them alone.

Finding Rest in Jesus When You're Weary This Winter

This is what I mean by "graceful rhythms." Not rigid rules or endless checklists, but simple, Jesus-centered ways to let my soul breathe. It's pausing to pray before the day swallows me, breathing in His peace instead of my to-do list. It's choosing a quiet moment with Scripture over scrolling for answers. It's caring for the body He gave me, maybe with a soothing cream to ease the physical ache, as an act of stewardship, not vanity. These small steps aren't about perfection; they're about abiding in Him, learning the "unforced rhythms of grace" Jesus talks about in The Message paraphrase of Matthew 11.

How God's Grace Brings True Rest for Your Soul

Winter feels like the perfect season to lean into this. The earth itself rests. Trees bare, ground quiet, everything waiting under snow or frost for the life that's already promised. God designed it that way, and I believe He does the same in us. These colder months aren't punishment; they're invitation. An invitation to stop performing and start receiving. To let Him lead us beside still waters, to restore our souls (Psalm 23). In the stillness, hidden growth happens. Deeper roots, stronger faith, a heart more attuned to His voice.

Simple Grace-Filled Rhythms to Rest in Christ

That's why I started this Graceful Living blog, and especially the Reflections section. It's a space for us Jesus followers to be real: to share the hard days, the moments of doubt, and the sweet relief when we remember we're held. No pretending we're always strong. Just honest reflections on walking with Christ through every season.

If you're feeling that soul-tiredness today, you're not alone and you're not meant to stay there. Jesus is still saying, “Come to me... and I will give you rest.” Start small. Breathe. Pray something simple like, “Lord, I'm weary. Help me rest in You.” And if you'd like a gentle framework to begin, grab our free Graceful Rhythm Guide when you subscribe. It's just a few faith-first steps to calm your nervous system, quiet the noise, and let His grace do the heavy lifting.

This is only the beginning. I'll be back here sharing more reflections on His faithfulness in the ordinary, on grace when we fall short, on finding joy even when the ground is frozen. I'd love to hear from you, too: What's one way you're leaning into rest in Jesus this season? Drop it in the comments below. We're in this together.

With grace and gratitude,
Corrie
